I'm happy to announce that I've finally
put together a teaching series on writing
Christian fiction. This will make my job
sooooo much easier over at I'll read it!.
I've included everything I could think of
to help new novelists write powerful
fiction. The series is called Bringing
Fiction to Life: On Writing Powerful
Christian Fiction. It's available, as you
can see, on either cassettes or CDs. For
more info, check out the Course page.

And a trailer has been born!
Yep, all the rage lately has been about authors creating trailers
for their books. Like movie previews, trailers are designed to
whet the appetite, so to speak. But these trailers are for books,
domains of the imagination. And most of us authors are way too
broke (or cheap) to make them as fancy as movie trailers. Thank
goodness for MovieMaker. : ) And I'm totally thanking the Lord
for Royalty Free Scores (at www.royaltyfreescores.com) for
having the most amazing song available for free just as I was
searching for music for my trailer. Solitario by Robert Hestland
came to me as a simple gift from God. No doubt.
Give it a looksee to find out for yourself. Find the trailer for

An idea is born . . .
Okay, so it's not exactly a new idea. The first novel
I wrote back in 1996 is still sitting on my shelf. It
deals with a very fun time of my life when I worked
for the Forest Service in the Lowell Ranger District
just east of Eugene, Oregon. This weekend, after
making a trip through that old stomping ground,
seeing the devastation from fire and the lack of
upkeep from a lack of funds, my heart broke. I came
away realizing that I had worked in that area during
its prime. The land will probably never look that
good or be that healthy ever again.
I also came away with an idea about how to satisfy
Zondervan's insatiable need to receive two more
stories from me . . . asap. So, we may be on our
way. All I know right now is that it'll be fun, and a
bit sad, traipsing down memory lane while
stomping through what's left of the area today.
But who knows. Maybe, as I walk the land and
remember and allow the ideas to flow, I'll spot one
of my old friends sitting up there in the same tree it
just so happens I'm walking under. Hey. It's
happened before. I kid you not.

boo-hoo.) It's sure to be . . . well, let's just hope it's

Heroes Series, also known as Standing
Strong, will be the final installment in
Christina McIntyre's and Erin Mathis's
story. Y'all are gonna love the
series-ending epilogue. I guarantee they
both will live happily ever after . . . with
their wonderful husbands and their
delightful children, of course.
Standing Strong officially releases
sometime around the end of September to
the middle of November 2007, depending
on whom you ask. More of the same for
this book. It's been an adventure waiting
for this book to hit the shelves. Ahh, but
we're almost there. Finally.

And, finally, it is official. With the release of Standing Strong, the final
installment in the Homeland Heroes Series, not only does Chris's story close
on a hopefully satisfying note, but so does my writing career. For a multitude
of good and mutually beneficial reasons, my relationship with Zondervan is
ending. The new story ideas I struggled to put together (see below) didn't
exactly trigger warm fuzzies for my editors. So, the contract has been
cancelled, I am even as we speak in the process of paying off what I owe
them, and this chapter in my life (and theirs) is over.
Am I bummed about this? Not at all. Actually, I'm glad it's all over. This is not
to say I will never write again. Down the road, who knows what may happen?
For now I am concentrating on continuing to provide quality editorial services
through I'll read it!. With the ever-increasing numbers of new Christian
novelists submitting manuscripts, I have a sneaky feeling things will continue
to truck along quite nicely. : )
Thanks to all of you for helping to make this ride so amazing. I wouldn't trade
one minute of it for anything. And my special thanks to Zondervan for taking a
chance on me to begin with. Being able to share Chris and Erin's story with
the world has been the sweetest privilege of my life.

Life has come full circle for me. I grew up in a small
town on the Oregon Coast called Florence. I loved
every minute I spent as a Siuslaw Viking.

(Everything in Florence—okay, not everything, but just about everything, including the schools—is
named after the tribe of Native Americans who first settled the area. The Siuslaw.) Anyway, I have
been hired as the new sports reporter for the Siuslaw News, Florence's hometown newspaper. I'm
going home!!!
As you can probably tell, I'm a wee bit jazzed. Whodathunkit?? I found a nice little apartment in
town, and a great job, and I'll be surrounded with all the comforts of home, including most of my best
forever friends. I thank the Lord for this opportunity, even as I thank Him for all that has happened
these past twelve years. What a ride this has been. : )
